Cedric was the caller this day for Taku Akomanga (BINGO! using photos of classroom objects as cards). We are almost experts and don’t need to sneak a look at the back with the word written in Maori.
This is an excellent game to play. We’re working on the sentence…
SPEAKER: He aha tenei? (What is this?)
RESPONDER: Aua? (Don’t know?) or He ………….. tena. (That is a ……………)
SPEAKER: He …………….. tenei :)
One task in the Literacy Contracts is to read books relating to our Inquiry (selected from the Invercargill Public Library). Courtnee has this super book called “True or False Farm Animals.”
The fact was…
Farmers cut the wool from their sheep once a year. True or False?
True! Farmers usually shear off the sheep’s soft coat of wool in the spring. The wool, called fleece, has a special oil that keeps out water. It protects the sheep from rain and snow. Young sheep produce the softest and finest wool, called lamb’s wool.
Fact: One sheep produces enough wool every year to make a man’s suit.
Olivia worked very hard with Mr Leti. She loves learning using the computer (she’s a real whizz!).
Here Olivia was working on word families after laying out the alphabet in order. She built up a large bank of ‘at’ words. Tino pai Olivia.
Each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday students from the middle and senior classes attend Rotation from 1.30 - 2.10pm. Here students rotate around the five classes learning cool topics such as ICT, dance, music, P.E., and drama. Here Room 9 are listening to the story ‘The Kuia and the Spider’ by Patricia Grace.
Following this, in groups of 4 or 5, they had to mime the pages read. By using exaggerated facial and bodily actions the story is told to the audience. The audience had to choose who the Kuia or the Spider was, plus add feedback to help improve the performance.
Welcome to Room 9’s webpage :-)
I look forward to adding a blog each week of the school terms. I invite all parents (and my family up North) to visit our wonderful school website each week.
I’m very excited about seeing all the wonderful students in Room 9 - we are going to have a fabulous year :-)
